today I purchase a Manfrotto light weight tripod and head, it came in a kit, and was cheap $135. It is light enough for me to hump around hiking. I looked at other tripods and heads, but went saver and purchased my first quality lens, a canon EF-S 10-22mm.

My early 2008 Macbook Pro just died after two and a half years. When I brought it into the Apple Store, they said my logic board had failed and wasn't my nVidia 8600GT. $1,100 to replace. I said no thanks.
I'll be needing a laptop this Sept for school and the new Macbook Pros look awesome. Is there anything about them I should be afraid of?? I don't want it to break down.

If IBM's presentation at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel the morning of October 15th indicates that Power4 is shipping in quantity soon thereafter, I'll be forced to wait until January. I could see Apple offering a single or dual Power4 Mac at a higher price than the dual 1.25 sooner than 6 months henceforth. Perhaps $3,999. Point being that if it's going to be November (which I do believe) then we might as well wait for Steve's MWSF presentation to see what's next. Not that he's necessarily going to tell us then. But that perhaps he'll tell us then.
The other factor will be some benchmarks on the 1.25 to see how much faster it really is. And the other factor is if it is a 7470 or not. Another factor is lust. Another factor is impatience. Another factor is the developement of OS X.2.2 or 2.3. There are an awful lot of bugs in this 10.2.0 that have scared me off of upgrading. I have a very happy and what I percieve to be fast 10.1.5 running on an "old" 500 MHz/100MHz/1.5 GB/100 GB/GF2 CUBE running SILENT.
So while I would like to boost my capability 5+ times, which I'm sure the dual 1.25 would do, I would also like to wait a little longer and boost my capability 10 times or more which I think the first generation Power4 may do.
I also may not have a clue. But I guarantee you I will be in the room when IBM explains what they're up to with the Power4 Processor the morning of October 15th at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel.
Care to join me?

Apple is offering a new promotion. Buy a Power Mac or PowerBook for up to $400 less when you add a display. I cant imagine this not leading up to the update in the display line we've all been hoping for.

Don't install a Dev Preview that you downloaded from Demonoid. That would probably be a great place to start fixing that issue.

Answer to original question: I don't know what possesses people to use WMV3 (which is actually Windows Media 9 video) in AVI files, but you're currently out of luck. WindowsMediaPlayer on the mac knows how to play WMV3, but it can't read AVI containers, so it's useless, and I know of no way to build the video and audio streams from an AVI file into an ASF file, at least on a Mac.
There are also no open source players that can decode WMV3, although a couple days ago the first foundations for doing just that were laid in the ffmpeg project, so eventually there will be options.
Like bankshot implied, that's an embarassingly ignorant comment, being that although AVI probalby isn't as good of a container format as MOV (less features), they're identical in that they both allow a huge range of video and audio formats, which is your complaint.
If you'd like me to demonstrate by making a MOV with a codec you can't play, it'll take me about a minute and a half.
The only difference is that most people who make MOV files stick to standard QuickTime codecs, whereas AVI, being much more popular for home-ripped files on the internet (where people seem to have an inexplicable urge to use bizzare codecs when there are far better and more popular alternatives available), has a huge range of oddball stuff people decide to use with them. You could easily do the same with QuickTime if you felt like it, though, and I'll bet if it was more popular people would.
I had no idea that non-QuickTime stuff was allowed in a MOV file. That seems like not such a smart idea to me - it'll just confuse people that download it, expecting that it will play in QuickTime Player, when it doesn't.

As someone in the educational field as well, I think this is pretty poor and near sighted of Apple or whoever has made the decision.
From a business perspective you are probably going to push more trade Apple's way as you are showing kids (future consumers) how great Macs are and why they are better than PCs. Also you are I assume using Macs in your school.
So you would think that as an educator with the "domino effect factor" (no doubt you will mention it to your students and show them the latest software/hardware), that in fact they would be rolling out the red carpet for you and courting you as if you are happy then you will spread the word - to how many future consumers??
It's not exactly rocket science, IMO.

Im not just bidding on the receipt or a picture, right? ;)
it sucks that there are people out there who actually try to pull scams like this and sometimes even get away with it.
sickening... :(
BUT, as i say in the auction, BID WITH CONFIDENCE! :)

How to I add text to the end of an NSString?
Thanks
You don't, NSString is immutable.
there is stringByAppendingString: which will return a new, autoreleased NSString with the current value plus the NSString passed in, but if you need to be altering a string "in place" you need NSMutableString. It has an appendString: method.

as in the bundle do you mean the folder on the desktop?
He means did you copy the icons to your project folder, not just link them (box checked when you dragged them in)?

Wunderlist. Syncs to all your devices. Easy to use. Free.
This. So simple to be able to manage tasks on my iMac and have them wirelessly synced to my iPhone and iPad. You can also add tasks via email but I've never bothered to learn how.
