The phrase Podcast didn't exist until the development of Apple's iPod....
So? Some words like "Podcast" are adopted from popular culture. I still talk about Walkmans, not "Portable Audio Cassette Decks". Imagine how annoying that would be to say every time?
I can understand why they want to protect the iPod name. That is their name, and that is their product. However, they really should leave "Podcast" alone. Having a "Podcast" is like the ultimate insult to everyone like Creative, Microsoft, etc. The name "Podcast" exists not because people want to leech off of the iPod's popularity, but because of the iPods popularity, and how endeared it is by our culture. These "Podcasts" were created to be downloaded onto iPods so that people can listen. In our society, iPod comes to mind first. Nobody was thinking of creating these audiocasts with the Creative Zen or MS Zune in mind. If they end up on a Zune, that's fine, but the thought was to get their content on iPods, which is really quite a compliment to Apple when you think about it.

People put (what they think is) a lot of research into their PC purchases and if someone comes along and tells them they just made the wrong choice in a very snarky, sarcastic way, it can provoke two responses: 1) humiliation, or 2) anger (ego self-defense). Neither of which are good.
These Mac ads, in addition to whatever popularity they've achieved, are stirring up a lot of Mac hatred.

I don't think this is real. If this was a "prototype" why would it have XX GB on the back. None of the OEM iPhone 4's have any storage indication markings on the outside. So why would the XX be on the case?
If you ask me, its customized with aftermarket white glass (that you can buy from china, in white, pink, blue, black, green, etc).
In fact, after looking closer at the video. The back of the case appears to be a shiny or clear-coat plastic, and not glass. Furthermore, there appears to be a separation or gap along the bottom edge of the phone on the back of the device. Supporting that it is a poor seal from an aftermarket replacement of a black iphone 4's glass with a replica white piece. Such a gap would NOT exist if this was released by apple or exist in a prototype.
Prototype iPhones do have XX denoting the storage space. The 64GB prototypes for sale in Mongkok have the XX on the back too. Wouldn't surprise me if the same supplier of the dozen or so black ones in the wild also slipped this outa Shenzen foxconn.

I tend to use all the office apps and go back and fourth depending on needs. The exception is PowerPoint for Windows, I don't use that very much.

I did plan on building myself but I might get the store to do it for me. I have done HDD, GPUS, CD drives, Ram. I'm just have not done the CPU and I am affraid I will bend all the bits on it. Also all the cords that attach everywhere might confuse me, like power on button.
Would I need to overclock the 930 system, never done a thing like that before. Does it really add to the ppd, also I will be using the system myself so it will not fold 24/7.

if you get an i7 930: you can run bigadv units, but you will need to overclock at least some. if you build the system yourself, an slight overclock is very easy (my motherboad has a 'dummy overclock' setting to set it to 3.2 ghz).
with bigadv units and the smp2 units, you get a bonus for how quick you return the work unit. a 930 at 4.0 ghz is about the same as a 2 x 2.26 ghz mac pro. but 4.0 ghz isn't easy.
so, if you don't feel like overclocking at least a little bit, you can just run the smp2 units. they still give a bonus, just they are worth less points.
GPUs use more power and create more heat. the big GPUs use a ton of power and cost quite a bit of money. i can look into a GPU vs 930 more later if you like.

I think Woz was trying to please the audience a little with that response as he was aware they are tech savy and knew he couldnt get away with praising it as a revolutionizing device. So i think his response was a good one.

I wonder if Rosetta was handicapped during the transition period so people would still purchase the remaining exciting PowerPC products.
Funny, I really haven't noticed any bad slowdowns in any of the software I use on my Mac Pro (could be it was such a huge upgrade for me tho :).

The device also appears to contain several preloaded applications internally used by Apple for diagnostics, testing, and demoing, lending additional legitimacy to the claims.

Update: Yesterday everything worked with my DVD drive - today everything is the same as before! It won't play some of my DVDs - how strange is that? It seems that the reset made the DVD drive accept DVDs again, but only for a limited time :-(
Does anybody else in this forum have the same problem? Is there any soft fix, or does my MBP have to get ripped apart and receive new parts?

Nice about the update, although I don't really use the email for .Mac, lol. The storage space issue others seem to have a problem with isn't really a problem for me....at least not yet.
I'd recommend .Mac to anyone who wants to do this kind of stuff. Can you think of a way to do all of the above for < $100/year without being an uber geek who knows all about FTP and WebDAV and POP/SMTP? :D
Very true. I said it before and I'll say it again. With .Mac and iLife '06 (especially iWeb) making a simple website to show photos to your family and friends is simple for practically anyone to use. (great now I'm starting to sound like a commercial :p)

I'm with you. I already catched myself looking up a number in my nano's address book ("contacts") and looking for the "call" item. I'd love to have the main menu going "Music \n Phone \n Phone \n Extras etc." But the nano might actually be a little small for a phone. Try holding one at your ear for a minute. How about an add-on that you plug in on the bottom via the dock connector? Makes the thing a little longer and you can just upgrade your iPod. Kinda like the iTrip, but in the exact same design as the iPod itself.
No way would an iPhone launch without a keypad. Text messaging is too popular. I think it will be a slider phone, though, so they keyboard is tucked away until you need it.
And I don't think the nano length is too short for a phone. My SonyEricsson is the same height as the Nano.
