I hear all this talk about an iPhone coming soon, which is great, but what carrier will Apple use?
It looks like they are going to use Cingular or maybe T-Mobile. I really doubt Apple using Sprint, Verizon or ONLY wifi. Wifi would be pointless because it would be very limited to certain areas only. I think their phones will be GSM, and all us customers who use cdma will be left out in the cold.
There are a lot more restrictions on a cdma phone than on a GSM phone. This really sucks because Verizon is the only company that works where I live...

Capacitive home button? Doesn't seem too far-fetched, but unlikely anytime soon. Looks like a prototype and nothing more.

Right now I have a 5870 running a 24" ACD and a Dell u2311h. I also have a TV that I want to to be hooked up, but right now I don't have an active adapter for it, but I do have an active one for the MDP to single link DVI. If I ever want to hook up the TV right now, the u2311h won't work. So I was thinking of getting another Dell u2311h and hooking that up to the 5870 with the active adapter. Then I was thinking of getting a cheap gt 120 just for the TV. I am not sure how will this would work and I would also like to get some of y'alls opinions.
Ping me if you are interested in a used GT120. It's only 5 months old or so, and I've got the receipt, etc.
Why do I want to sell? Under current conditions (Snow Leopard, applications etc) all my 3d apps default to the GT120 rather than my 4870 for rendering OpenGL, which slows my work in c4d and vue.

No it won't convert the PC fanboys or the increasingly popular 'I can be offended quicker than you can' crowd but I really doubt those are the target audience. The ads are humorous and hit exactly the kind of audience from which 'switchers' come from - those dissatisfied with their PC experience.
Apple isn't trying to take over the entire computer market - way too many people you wouldn't want as customers in that crowd. Just getting the kind that do find the commercials humorous and 'on the mark' with the added controversy the commercials themselves spawn is probably more than enough. Look at this thread - if I'd were leaning towards Macs and ran into the PC sourpusses here I'd get one just to provoke them further. Humorless people need to be taunted and provoked at every opportunity - they will either grow or explode, both steps up.

Hope to see you join the team GSX, if you don't won't to run it 24/7 don't just have the client on when you use the computer. It is designed so that you do not notice a decrease in speed when using the client.
Great to know the the project is open, I never gave it that much thought :o Still even if it was run at a profit the fact is a cure has still occured :)

lets see, DB2 is just as expensive if not more. mysql and postgres suck compared to SQL server. we do use them a little. mysql is good for websites but not for internal databases. it's missing a lot of features that SQL and Oracle have because the former CEO is a moron and only put in features to make it standards compliant. i don't think it even had a x64 version back in 2006..
Its very subjective to the developer whether what SQL database sucks.
AD is a killer solution for internal IT. it sucks for customer facing ldap, but for your employee database it's great. integrates with MS exchange and upgrades over the years are easy.
Zimbra integrates into itself (Its much more than just an exchange competitor now) and starts from free.

I could not agree with you more!
My current iPhone is my last! I disgusted with Apple's monopolist stranglehold on the product and apps. They have become total control freaks.
When this phone dies, it will NOT be replaced with another Apple product.

Just received my 64GB 3G iPad from AT&T online, so I don't feel like I missed out. $529 for the previous top of the line model was to good to pass up.
I was intending to wait for the iPad 2, but for $29 more than the 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2, I was able to get the 64GB Wi-Fi + 3G iPad 1. :)

I'm holding off on the ipad. I really like it and I'm not waiting for some future specs. I just am not sure I have enough need for it to spend that kind of cash. I have a three year old laptop and I think I'd rather save a little more money and get a new laptop than add an ipad to my collection. And I think the needs of an ipad are not that great for me right now.
I think if I were to buy one it would be as a gift for my parents. You know these are ideal for people in the family who do not really need a full computer but you'd like to have the ability to interact with on-line. You can set it up with your own computer and occasionally update it for them. It looks to be a lot less of a headache to manage for someone who is not tech savvy than a full computer.

In anyevent please stop the whinning about developers, if they followed Apples guide lines their apps would work fine on the new model. In fact many people in these forums really should just shut up until they read the developer documentation.

Yep if you read even just the human interface guidelines Apple's message to developers is 'think of the user's or don't bother being here'. Then there is a remarkable number of cases where the app will have it window sized clipped to suit something else happening on the device already, so it's not like any developer can claim ignorance.
I think Apples next move would be to make the screen longer.
What with screens like PixelQi getting up to a good high veiwing angles and the iPhone being a device you don't tend to turn off. A screen that looks great backlight on or off, albeit with very different moods, would really suit. If the screen can always show something for little or no power cost then you don't need a button to activate the screen. If your only going to turn on the screen backlight for special programmed events, then they don't need to be worried about pocket touches as much either.
Take the home button away stretch the screen down to fill the space. The extra space in common usage is the multitasking dock and the status bar up the top. That way all apps would just work as they do now at the same res except less space pinching from the OS. In Portrait mode the keyboard would use the dock space giving more viewing space. Same with standard video views they would know to how to use the full screen and apps would get that with minimal work to.
And that is only one Option of how they could go, I'm sure there are many more they just haven't made it out in to nerd space news.

A EF-s 50 mm lens is 50 mm on a 1.6 camera. A 50mm EF lens on that same camera is similar in image to a 80mm EF-S lens. The reason for the difference comes into play by the amount of the lens the camera is using to record the image and the proximity of the rear element to the camera sensor.
I have a Sigma 10-20mm (EF-s equivalent) for my 7d. It's Focal lenth is 10-20mm. It's field of view is 16-32mm.
If you could fit it on a full frame (which you can't because of the mirror reflex as explained earlier by someone) but if you could,
it would still have a 10-20mm focal length. However it would have an increased depth of field (over the crop) of 10-20mm.
I dont even think you can get that wide on a full frame. I mean you can get a 8-15mm fish eye, but you would have a circular picture at the widest end.

Bought a Macbook Pro this past February, love it.
I am becoming a heavy user of iMovie11 and have produced some cool movies. I have a Panasonic TM 700 HD video camera.
I hosted a premier last night of a movie and was slightly frustrated with the video quality of the DVD. It is not HD, but looks OK. The sound is very good.
I then hooked up my Macbook to the TV (HDMI) and viewed the movie (which was shared to media browser) through iMovie. I setup in preferences to ensure the output was 1080i. Video looked a lot better, but the sound of the background music overshadowed the voice on the people on the movie. Not sure why this changed.
What should I do to maximize the video quality and have the audio match the version I edited?

I really like what they have done with the multitasking UI, but I really hope the have something better for WWDC. I'm looking forward for an iPad home page that looks like the Android ones with widgets and better notifications.
